Description

Aronia
(Aronia melanocarpa; also known as chokeberry), is a shrub native to
North America. Chokeberries can be found in many food products like
wine, jams and juices.

The
deep purple colour of Aronia melanocarpa has attracted a lot of
scientific attention. Purple fruits are rich in polyphenols, especially
antioxidants known as anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins. These pigments
demonstrate potent cell-protective properties.

The
Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity or ORAC (a measure of the
antioxidant strength of foods) demonstrates chokeberry to have one of
the highest values yet recorded among berries.
